Data rate is where the bit and the byte do the most damage, because broadband is sold in bits and downloads are reported in bytes. A 100 Mbps plan delivers 12.5 MB/s, and a 1 Gbps plan delivers 125 MB/s. The factor is always 8.
The units step in thousands, so 1 Mbps is 1,000 kbps and 1 Gbps is 1,000 Mbps. Home broadband commonly tops out around 1 Gbps, while 10 Gbps and above belong to data centers and backbone links. Streaming is the useful yardstick: 1080p video runs at roughly 5 Mbps and 4K at around 25 Mbps, so a 100 Mbps line carries several 4K streams at once.

How many MB/s is 100 Mbps? 12.5. Network speeds are quoted in bits per second and file transfer speeds in bytes per second, and 8 bits make a byte, so divide the Mbps figure by 8.
How fast is 1 Gbps in MB/s? 125 MB/s, for the same reason. Gigabit connections are also described as 1,000 Mbps, so the two descriptions are the same line seen in different units.
What speed do I need for 4K streaming? About 25 Mbps for each stream, against roughly 5 Mbps for 1080p. A 100 Mbps connection handles three or four simultaneous 4K streams before bandwidth becomes the limit.
Is Mbps the same as MBps? No, and the difference is a factor of eight. Mbps is megabits per second, used for connection speed; MBps is megabytes per second, used for transfer speed. One MBps equals 8 Mbps.
